Therapy Groups

Jacob is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and is a Certified Advance Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). Jacob has experience in working at a community mental health agency where he provided counseling through outpatient therapy, crisis work through working on-call, and group therapy. In outpatient therapy Jacob worked with individuals who struggled with being stuck in their emotions and thoughts and engaging in ineffective behaviors. Jacob’s case load included a diverse range of adults, children and families. At community mental health Jacob created and facilitated groups working with adolescents and adults. These groups promoted changes in behavior through fostering learning of healthy skills and developing increased awareness and acceptance through mindfulness. Jacob’s group work included: creating and facilitating a mindfulness group for teenagers, an interpersonal effectiveness co-occurring adult group, and working at the jail creating and providing an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy process group for women who struggled with both mental health and substance use concerns.

Jacob is trained in evidenced based therapies, meaning that he engages in treatments that have been shown to be scientifically effective. Specifically, he is extensively trained and experienced in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, an empirically based therapy that focuses on helping to create space from unpleasant thoughts and emotions. This is accomplished through mindfulness and helping individuals engage in behaviors that honor the person they want to be. Jacob has diverse experience in evidenced based treatments in working with adults, children and families who struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, co-occurring disorders (struggles with substance use and mental health), and difficulties with interpersonal relationships. Jacob is passionate about empowering individuals to move in the direction that connects them to who and what is truly important to them.
